The Gods Must Be Crazy II
• TOP NOTCH (my top choices)
• HONORABLE MENTION (well worth watching)
• YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER (I like them but you might not)
• CLASSICS (Great movies up through the 1960s - many don't have any rating)
THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY II (1989) - PG - HONORABLE MENTION
N!xau, Lena Farugia, Hans Strydom
Summary - Xixo is back again. This time, his children accidentally stow away on a fast-moving poachers' truck, unable to get off, and Xixo sets out to rescue them. Along the way, he encounters a couple of soldiers trying to capture each other and a pilot and passenger of a small plane, who are each having a few problems of their own.
Cautions - In the sequel there is only a small amount of Nation Geographic style nudity but the people of the African bush still don't wear much. There is also a woman who ends up in just her underwear 3 times in the film.
Commentary - This film is a different kind of comedy than the first installment. It's less documentary and more like a situational comedy. There is still lots of great slapstick but it has a more mature crafting to it. At the very least it appears they had a bigger budget.
Given the choice, it's hard for me to choose which film I like better (the first or the second). They are each wonderful in their own way. But in this sequel I love the two soldiers that keep trying to arrest each other and their interaction with a big-city woman lost in the plains of the Serengeti. I also LOVE any scene with the honey badger in it. Fantastic! But the real treasure is the brother and sister stuck in the poachers' truck, trying to get home. Their adventure is where the heart of the film is and what will make you want to watch this movie again and again. Give it a try.
