The Hundred-Foot Journey

• TOP NOTCH (my top choices)
• HONORABLE MENTION (well worth watching)
• YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER (I like them but you might not)
• CLASSICS (Great movies up through the 1960s - many don't have any rating)

THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY (2014) - PG - TOP NOTCH
Helen Mirren, Om Puri, Manish Dayal

Summary -  A story centered on an Indian family who moves to France and opens a restaurant across the street from a Michelin-starred French restaurant.

Cautions - DELICIOUS looking food. Be aware that this film deals with racial/ethnic issues and there is some violence that results from it.

Commentary - What would a film look like if Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey signed on as producers, who locked in an accomplished director to bring to life an excellent script from a popular novel... Oh, and Helen Mirren is in it? Watch The Hundred-Foot Journey and find out.

Many critics found the movie bland but beautiful, running out of steam in the 4th quarter. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a critic score of 68% but the audience score is 81%. I'll have to let you decide for yourself but for my part, I found the story and characters endearing, the cinematography rich and engaging and the lack of "sharp spices" to be refreshing. If this makes the film feel "safe" to some, so be it. I really liked it.
