We Bought a Zoo
• TOP NOTCH (my top choices)
• HONORABLE MENTION (well worth watching)
• YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER (I like them but you might not)
• CLASSICS (Great movies up through the 1960s - many don't have any rating)
WE BOUGHT A ZOO (2011) - PG - HONORABLE MENTION Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church
Summary - Set in Southern California, a father moves his young family to the countryside, after the death of his wife, to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo.
Cautions -Some minor language.
Commentary - You can tell from the start that the story will have a happy ending, and that the damaged characters will be made whole. But this film is more about the journey than the destination, and in the hands of director Cameron Crowe (working from the true story) it offers considerable pleasure along the way.
How often do we get to see a movie in which a loving family, faced with challenges, finds a way to reconnect and grow stronger? This may not be considered cutting-edge storytelling, but I can’t think of anything more relevant or worthwhile. - Leonard Maltin
