Holes

• TOP NOTCH (my top choices)
• HONORABLE MENTION (well worth watching)
• YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER (I like them but you might not)
• CLASSICS (Great movies up through the 1960s - many don't have any rating)

HOLES (2003) - PG - TOP NOTCH
Shia LaBeouf, Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight

Summary -  A wrongfully convicted boy is sent to a brutal desert detention camp where he joins the job of digging holes for some mysterious reason.

Cautions - Some PG level profanity, violence and scary scenes.

Commentary - If you've read the famous book by Louis Sachar, you might be amazed how close to the plot and tone the movie is to the book. Well,  Louis Sachar wrote the screenplay too! It's a wonderfully quirky story with genuine emotion and characters that you are happy to cheer for. One of the great joys of the film is trying to figure out what the heck is going on! Fear not. Director, Andrew Davis, walks us through this web of backstory, flashback by flashback until it all comes together.

When you have a movie with child actors you never know what you're going to get. The casting here was inspired. It's beautifully edited and a wonderfully entertaining and touching film. Watch it on your next movie night. You won't regret it.
