Gunless

• TOP NOTCH (my top choices)
• HONORABLE MENTION (well worth watching)
• YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER (I like them but you might not)
• CLASSICS (Great movies up through the 1960s - many don't have any rating)

GUNLESS (2010) - PG (Equivilant) - TOP NOTCH
Paul Gross, Sienna Guillory, Dustin Milligan

Summary -   A hardened American gunslinger is repeatedly thwarted in his attempts to mount a showdown in a friendly town in Canada where no one seems to understand or appreciate the brutal code of the American Wild West. All the while, bounty hunters are closing in.

Cautions - Well, it's a western so at some point there's going to be a shootout.

Commentary - This may not be everyone's fare but I can't see what's not to love about this film. The plot is classic. It has fun with as well as pays it's respects to classic western motifs. But I think you have to see it for the wonderful Paul Gross. If you are not familiar with his work, you should move to Canada (which, by the way, is where this film was made so you may have a tricky time finding this one in the States). Did you ever watch Due South in the 90s? He was the Mounty.

It's a modest budget, character driven comedy with heart. And if you love old time westerns, I think you'll love this too.

NOTE: Just a warning if you get the DVD. There is a terrible trailer for another western on the disk that comes on before the menus. Skip it. It's embarassingly bad and there is a quick flash of an intimate scene that is not in keeping with the spirit of the feature film.
or, better yet...

Track down this movie on blu-ray and you won't have to worry about it at all.
