One Fine Day

• TOP NOTCH (my top choices)
• HONORABLE MENTION (well worth watching)
• YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER (I like them but you might not)
• CLASSICS (Great movies up through the 1960s - many don't have any rating)

ONE FINE DAY (1996) - PG - YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER
Michelle Pfeiffer, George Clooney, Mae Whitman

Summary - The lives of two strangers and their young children unexpectedly intersect on one hectic, stressful day in New York City.

Cautions - A little swearing.

Commentary - OK. I agree that this isn't the greatest romantic film. It's pace is a bit slow, it isn't always stylistically consistent and the ending doesn't quite "wrap it up with a bow," but it's hard to meaningfully badmouth this movie. Great casting with believable chemistry and a sweet sentiment. Pfeiffer and Clooney are undeniably charming.

Careers are important but family is most important and none of us can do it alone... it's okay to ask for help.

NOTE: A really great cover of "One Fine Day" by Natalie Merchant opens the film.

  1. Putting together a light romantic comedy isn't rocket science, although you wouldn't know that from the number of failed attempts. But I thought the creators of "One Fine Day" managed the modern elements of the 90's romantic scene quite well. Sure the ending is predictable but I did enjoy the good old-fashioned Tracy - Hepburn chemistry generated by Michelle and George Clooney.
