Dead Poets Society

• TOP NOTCH (my top choices)
• HONORABLE MENTION (well worth watching)
• YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER (I like them but you might not)
• CLASSICS (Great movies up through the 1960s - many don't have any rating)

DEAD POETS SOCIETY (1989) - PG - HONORABLE MENTION
Robin Williams, Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke

Summary -  For generations, the people of the City of Ember have flourished in an amazing world of glittering lights. But Ember's once powerful generator is failing ... and the great lamps that illuminate the city are starting to flicker.

Cautions - A 1950s Playboy centerfold picture is displayed while a poem is read. Some underage smoking and drinking. This is not a kids movie. There are some mature thematic elements.

Commentary - Now with that caution out of the way, you should know that this movie is wonderfully powerful and inspiring. It was nominated for 4 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Director and Actor (Robin Williams). It won Best Screenplay and deserves it.

All the performances are excellent but Robin Williams really shines. A Robin William performance is usually the same as any other  - it's Robin Williams and we love him. But there is much more in this performance. There is a warmth he projects that seems so real that you, like the boys, would gladly follow him anywhere.
