SPLASH (1984) - PG - YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER
Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, John Candy, Eugene Levy

Summary -  A young man is reunited with a mermaid who saves him from drowning as a boy and falls in love not knowing who/what she is.

Cautions - A bit of language and a lot more Daryl Hannah nudity than I remembered.

Commentary - Overlooking the premise and plot holes in the script, and suspending disbelief with both hands, Splash ends up being a sweet romance with a delightful twist. What really makes this film work is the casting. Newcomers, like Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah, were completely committed to their mythology and brought an authentic-ness and humor to the characters that made audiences fall in love with them both.. The whole cast was superbly choosen - each balancing out the others (Notably John Candy who was the perfect foil for Hanks).

While I find it a thoroughly entertaining romantic comedy, some of the low-brow moments and the amount of Daryl Hannah audiences are shown, may be offensive to some. I'm not sure if it would be judged PG by today's standards but if you enjoyed this movie in your younger days and want to know if it still holds up today... the answer is, "Yes."
